Skeet shooting silliness

Obama Shooting GunI don’t support President Barack Obama’s useless gun control package, nor do I buy the propaganda that the White House is peddling that the president is an enthusiastic recreational shooter when he’s at Camp David.
But I think the conspiracy theories the photo has birthed are ridiculous and ill-informed. I suspect most of the accusations that the photo is a fraud are coming form those who’ve never shot clay targets.
The attacks center on the fact that Obama’s gun is fairly level in the photo, and not pointed upward. I’ve seen dozens of tweets that say if he were really shooting skeet, his gun would be elevated.
Well, not always. There are a lot of examples in clay and skeet shooting when the gun would be level, or even pointed downward. Sporting clays, when the targets are often sent rolling along the ground, is one instance.
Even in skeet, if an inexperienced shooter allows the bird to fall too far before shooting, the gun could be level.
Admittedly, the president isn’t holding the shotgun as if he’s entirely comfortable. But to suggest the position of the gun is proof he wasn’t really shooting at clay birds doesn’t wash.
