By 4 p.m. Friday, portions of Woodward Avenue had become one large friendly parking lot. Knock-out weather, pleasant temperatures and possibly the realization that the summer is winding down brought out thousands of early bird cruisers and tens of thousands of spectators for a preview of Saturday’s Woodward Dream Cruise.
Traffic is light from Eight Mile north to Nine Mile where the action starts to pick up. Nine Mile is blocked and barricaded both east and west of M-1 as Ferndale puts on its annual celebration of Motor City muscle.
Traffic picks up again at 12 Mile and intensifies all the way to Maple Road, where most cars begin to loop southward once again. It’s hard to tell who’s having more fun, classic car cruisers or the spectators cruising in their lawn chairs.
