A 2012 Ford Mustang sits on display in the "Burnout Box," where professional drivers burn rubber for Dream Cruise fans.
If you could smell the aroma of burnt rubber along with the squeal of tires hitting the road in Ferndale, chances are it was coming from Ford Motor Co.’s “Burnout Box.”
In a barricaded area, partially surrounded by plexiglass, Ford drivers are showing off its racing-edition 2012 Mustang.
At 3:30 p.m., the racing team asked those in the vicinity to back up about 30 feet to perform the last burnout of the day. The driver floored the throttle as billows of smoke lifted into the air.
Juan Uribas, who was attending the Dream Cruise with his wife and grandson, saw the smoke from the distance and caught the tail end of the performance.
“I think the whole way it’s set up is fantastic,” said Uribas. “We live in St. Clair County, so we are so fortunate to be able to only drive an hour and be able to enjoy this.”
Uribas, a frequent Dream Cruise participant, said because of some issues with his 2002 Mustang he’ll just be a spectator this year.
