Chicago: A pit stop on the journey of following my heart

My first post for MichMoms explained how blogging and writing are my second act. I started this journey with nothing but my love for writing and an open heart. I had no end destination in mind. I just wanted to write and be read.

Imagine my delight and utter surprise when Kimpton Hotel Allegro in Chicago asked me and my kids to participate  in their new Allegro Kids Rule program!  I was overflowing with joy and gratitude that writing, something I love to do, had afforded me such an exciting experience (and travel nonetheless, which if you have read my last post, is super important to me)!

My family and I are always benefiting from the perks of my husband’s job.  We’ve gone to Tigers games.  We’ve stayed at various Four Seasons.  We were able to go to Disney World and stay at The Grand Floridian and bring my parents. These are amazing travel opportunities, but the flip side is I’m the tag-along, a mere supporting character, if you will.  Supporting my husband is important, but sometimes it’s difficult to just nod and smile at these events when I know that I am capable of much, much more.

My Hotel Allegro trip was different.  It was the fruits of my labor.  I was proud that not only my daughter could enjoy a perk of something I pour myself into each day, but that she saw me achieve something on my own accord.  (And in case I ever doubt that this trip did not register with her, I will remember her looking deep into my eyes and saying, “I want to be a writer, Mommy, just like you.”)

I have made something from nothing.  There is no list of prerequisite classes to follow.  There is no guidance counselor to tell me if I’m on track or not.  I’m just doing something that I love and brings me much happiness and following my heart.

And going place I never thought I would.
