Pontchartrain

My first night in Detroit was spent at the Pontchartrain Hotel before I interviewed for The Detroit News. My editor at the time didn’t feel the need to tell me anything more except: “We’ll put you up in the Pontch” I had no idea what she was talking about and at the time all I could find was directions to Lake Pontchartrain in NOLA. Yesterday I got to go through the presently empty hotel that was just purchased and will be up and running again. In the mean time, I was enjoying the quietness of the hallways and rooms left “empty” 2 years ago. I even think I saw my old room.

2010 Michigan Press Photographer of the year. I've been a photojournalist at The Detroit News since 2003. Prior to that, I worked at a few smaller papers around the state and feel like every high school state tournament is a walk down memory lane. When I'm not working, you can find me using film cameras, enjoying Michigan's outdoors (and no, that's not sarcasm), traveling or making a mess in my kitchen.
