Kobe benching...big news?

Maybe it’s the new-age media.

Maybe it’s because it’s Los Angeles and everything is magnified, but I don’t see what the big deal is about Kobe Bryant being benched last Sunday in their loss to the Grizzlies.

Bryant looked pretty peeved sitting on the bench during that crucial stretch, but perhaps Lakers coach Mike Brown was trying to show everyone–including a national television audience, no less–who was boss.

Now it wasn’t a big thing on the surface, but don’t think Bryant will forget. Maybe it was moreso for the rest of the team than it was for Bryant and maybe Bryant understands.

But if the Lakers self-destruct in the playoffs, don’t be surprised if this is used as a watershed mark in Brown’s first season.

Even though, it’s no big deal.
