A draft night of intrigue here at The Palace

Auburn Hills — It’s two days since the Pistons made their first real trade in three years, and I can’t help but wonder if we’ll see more moves tonight during the draft. Pistons owner Tom Gores is expected to be in the house, and he’s made it clear this team needs to get to the playoffs in 2013. They clearly have needs to fill. The Pistons desperately need a big man to play along side Greg Monroe and a potential replacement for  an aging Tayshaun Prince.

With the No. 9 pick, they could go a lot of different directions. Keep an eye on Jared Sullinger, the former Ohio State standout. Reports claim he’s got a bad back and will drop. If the Pistons have a shot to snag him, should they? Stay tuned. Also keep an eye on how many frontcourt players the team drafts. Remember that Charlie Villanueva appears in a shaky spot with the team because he barely played at all last year and dealt with reports he didn’t make the Dominican team because he’s out of shape. There also appears to be uncertainty about Ben Wallace’s status for the upcoming season. Will he retire or won’t he? Apparently he hasn’t figured that out yet.
