Yahoo! writer: Drummond a "boom-or-bust guy"

Here’s some draft analysis I found about the Pistons picks. The media is expected to meet with the Pistons draft picks Friday afternoon here in Auburn Hills.

What Yahoo! Sports’ Mike Huguenin says about the Pistons draft class:

No. 9 Andre Drummond

“Drummond is a big-time boom-or-bust guy. He is athletic and a good shot-blocker, but he didn’t rebound or score as well as expected in his lone season with UConn, and his consistency and motivation were questioned. Can he and Pistons big man Greg Monroe co-exist? Detroit may regret passing on a perimeter player.”

No. 39 Khris Middleton

“Middleton had a great sophomore season, but struggled through an injury-marred junior season; he still turned pro, though. He is a good perimeter defender and knows how to rebound, but struggled mightily with his outside shot as a junior. The Pistons need perimeter scorers, but is Middleton a good enough shooter?”

No. 44 Kim English

“English is a good shooter and thrives in an up-tempo attack; he also can be a pesky defender. But bigger NBA guards likely will overpower him and his size might mean he has to play the point, a position he seems ill-suited for.”

No. 9 Andre Drummond

“I think this is where the reward starts to outweigh the risk for the Pistons in terms of taking Drummond. And he winds up in a perfect situation in Detroit. The Pistons need a shot-blocker and rebounder in the paint to pair with Greg Monroe. Drummond is a project, but he has as much upside as anyone else in the draft other than Anthony Davis. The question, and it’s a real one, is whether he’ll reach it. “

No. 39 Khris Middleton

“I really like Middleton. He’s a smooth scorer with a great midrange game. He was projected as a first-round pick last year but injuries hurt his stock. A nice pick for Detroit here.
