The Republicans can’t connect to the present times; they are still trying to prove after Watergate and Richard “I’m not a crook” Nixon that they are the party of ethics and values. What values and ethics they are talking about with Newt Gingrich, the three-time loser, and Mitt Romney, the liar that makes flip-flopping look like child’s play?
The issues of unprecedented financial crisis, global debt, international trade wars and innovations for the next generation are not the things the Republican base wants to hear. The base is concerned about the conservatism or who is the most conservative candidate in the race. Conservative meaning who will take the country back to pre-civil rights days and let each community decide how to handle all issues, from race to education. They have no clue, not a clue, about the world ordinary people live in and the times that are at hand.
Romney and Gingrich know that things can never go back to the ’50s or the good old days when the good old boys had their way in every community. But they play the race card and the local rules card because the base of the party will not have it any other way. The turnout in South Carolina in a major rainstorm proves how far the base will go for Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the conservative talk show hosts.
Still, the Republican base can’t elect a president, so Barack Obama wins 2012.
