President Barrack Obama is being blamed for the high gas prices Americans are paying at the pump. The president ran on making great changes in the energy policies of this country. We were told how the changes would impact us and we were told that gas prices would be higher. We knew that alternative energy sources would be pushed.
The purpose of moving away from the combustible engine is to save the earth that is dying from pollution. The combustible engine is seen as the greatest of all polluters. To move people to electric cars and to move companies to build better electric cars is a goal of the Obama administration. There is no denying that the policies including the deals with G.M. and Chrysler were all meant to push things towards electric cars and alternative energy sources.
The facts are 85 percent of federal land is off limits to drilling for energy. Drilling leases on federal land are down 44 percent since 2007-2008. Only 2 percent of the offshore sites are available for drilling. When you think of the BP disaster that destroyed so much of the Gulf fishing and tourist business, we can thank the administration for not allowing more offshore drilling.
Gas prices are now being driven in the affairs in Europe and the Middle East. There is hardly a stable country in Europe and the Middle East. Iran and Syria are the main cause of the high gas prices in the United States right now. The financial troubles of Spain and Greece are driving prices up for Americans also, as speculation over the Euro continues to trouble the world.
Should gas prices be cheaper?
Yes, for the poor, working class. People making $6 an hour can’t make it at these prices. They must come down not by drilling, but by less demand. The government must make electric cars affordable for the people by subsidizing the building of cheap, but well-built electric cars.
