Mitt Romney, who claims he’s going to stand up to China on day one, is so tough he’s been reduced to whimpering that President Obama is being mean to him. In an interview on CBS news he whined:
“The president’s campaign has put out a campaign that’s talking about me and attacking me. I think it’s just demeaning to the nature of the process, particularly when we face the kinds of challenges we face.”
This from the same Mitt Romney who said this in a speech just prior to the interview:
“Mr. President, take your campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago,” Romney said while campaigning in Ohio.
And what did President Obama say in a speech this morning, you ask?
President Obama again calls Paul Ryan a good man with a beautiful family, but says “I just happen to fundamentally disagree with his vision.”
President Obama also says the same about Mr. Romney, and tells the crowds at his rallies not to boo Mitt. If that’s what Mitt Romney calls “angry and desperate” then I wish Mr. Romney would try using that same approach.
Mitt Romney has called President Obama “un-American.” He’s called him the “first food stamp President” and Romney told an all white audience at one rally that the NAACP booed him because they just want free stuff. And those aren’t the only personal attacks he’s made on our President. There’s too many to list. Indeed, Mitt Romney has turned up the volume on his racist dog whistles so loud I keep expecting to see a pack of stray dogs rushing the stage at his campaign stops.
Steve Benen sums up Romney’s schtick perfectly:
Look, this is just crazy. Romney has disgraced himself with nearly-uncontrollable lying, so he’s accusing Obama of being a disgrace. Romney is lashing out angrily, so he’s accusing Obama of being angry. Romney will do anything to win, so he’s accusing Obama of being willing to do anything to win. Romney is running a sleazy, substance-less, integrity-free campaign, so he’s accusing Obama of taking the campaign into the gutter.
Like all schoolyard bullies, Romney wants to win by being mean to others, but when someone stands up to him, he runs crying to his mommy. And really, if he can’t take even the most mild heat now, how is he going to be able to stand up for our country when a real threat arises?
