Safe and sound: Rocky Raczkowski arrives in Tampa

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Detroit News has four bloggers at the 2012 Republican National Convention — Lena Koretzky, Rocky Raczkowski, Laura Cox and Ronna Romney McDaniel. We will be posting their dispatches throughout the week.

We got off our plane and got hit with winds that I haven’t seen in a long time, but the excitement of being at the RNC Convention to represent Michigan overtook any thoughts of weather hazards.  Although, that wasn’t really on my mind.   I thought more about the freedom of speech and of association as spelled out in the 1st Amendment.

You may think that I should be thinking about the tropical storms and hazards posed by the weather, but you weren’t in my shoes.  Driving through downtown Tampa toward the Hotel assigned for Michigan, you see all the high-rise fences, Police, Capitol Security, Secret Service and Army National Guard Soldiers patrolling the entire perimeter.  You see, this is a new necessary evil because we live in a new era.  An era of terrorists and liberal social activists that will stop at nothing to disrupt the convention and change the focus of the debate from how the Romney/Ryan ticket will fix our economy, lower our deficit and bring real hope to states like our home… Michigan!

All these security forces and Army Guardsman are only here to ensure our safety but they are actually doing more than that.  They are allowing free speech and for us to exercise our free association for the good of our Nation.  I am proud they are here and we thank them for their service, because their service only become more challenging during the Hurricane.

As for the weather, oh well, it could have been better and we could have gotten a lot of sun, but being from Michigan, that is all over rated!  The storms are doing their own part in keeping away Liberal Social Activists and Terrorists as well.  So, yesterday we found out that our convention was postponed until Tuesday and that we are now rearranging the rest of our activities and the Convention lineup.

As far as the actual Convention, all I can tell you is that Michigan has a national, prominent profile.  We are front and center on the floor of the convention, and all the buzz is about Michigan giving its native born son the ability to put our nation back on the right track.  In other words, don’t worry Mom; if we are from Michigan, we are being more that taken care of!

Our receptions and gatherings are in full swing and nothing, not even Isaac, nor a man made emergency will stop our peaceful fight for the heart and minds our Nation, and the beautiful state of Michigan!

More tomorrow….

Rocky
