Cox: Craig Romney addresses Michigan delegation, talks up dad

Sunday night was filled with wind, rain and the Michigan Attorney General, Bill Schuette! The MI delegation listened to a Jimmy Buffet cover band while enjoying crab cakes, mini s’mores and other island-style finger foods. The weather was damp and what was supposed to be outside moved inside but the “beach party atmosphere” was present and everyone enjoyed the evening.

This morning the MI delegation started out with comments from Gov.Snyder and Newt Gingrich. Newt got the caucus riled up stating, “No American president should ever again bow to a Saudi king. ” Newt had the delegation charged up-even at the early hour after a late night of socializing.

The MI Delegation was honored by a visit and remarks by Mitt’s son, Craig Romney. He was a good speaker and shared some really cute stories about his dad.

I loved the Olympics story about how his dad learned how to do the Skeleton event to get an interview on the Today Show with Katie Couric. Skeleton is a luge event done face down! Craig said it was crazy but Mitt successfully learned to do the Skeleton, landed the interview and shared his message about how he was making changes at the Olympics. Romney shows this same tenacity now in his race to become the next president.

This afternoon was a luncheon to honor President Gerald Ford. AG Schuette, Congressman Mike Rogers, Ambassador Secchia, Gov Snyder and Gov John Engler were there, to name a few. I’ve attached a photo (above) of AG Schuette serving coffee — his signature activity at GOP events.

MI GOP Chairman Bob Schostak purchased U of M jerseys for all the guests with Ford’s name and number, 48, on them. That was a hit for most…but I’m a Spartan ;)

Gov. Snyder spoke about 1976 GOP convention and he had his credentials and his name tag from when he was a page! He joked that his hair was longer and brown and he wore a tie back then!

The Convention was called to order at 2pm and then recessed till tomorrow. The wind is still blowing and the rain is still falling.
