If you watched the Democratic National Convention last night, you probably heard Stevie Wonder, Martha Reeves and many other Motown artists. Perhaps many in Michigan failed to realize the national and international significance that has been created by these outstanding artists who created that magnificent sound. Many of the individuals involved in preparing the production for the Convention were born after Motown was founded. So now Martha Reeves, Stevie Wonder and The Temptations are welded into the national psyche.
Many people talked about cars, and about how Obama saved the auto industry. The natural hook would be, “Detroit is a city of cars and stars.”
It made many of us who were sitting there very proud to know that it was our energy and our focus that now has created the entrée for many of the rising political stars. Wouldn’t it have been nice to have the “diva-esque” Martha Reeves at the Convention, just to have a presence as her song was featured at the end of the Convention?
We need to be dancing in the streets!
