Romney fails foreign crisis test

Mitt Romney demonstrated his lack of foreign policy skill last night in a way that should disqualify him from the race. In a move reeking of political opportunism, Mitt Romney raced to publicly criticize our President’s response to a foreign crisis, even as our American ambassador was being murdered by a mob in Libya. Of course Mitt didn’t know that then, which makes the hastiness of his political potshots all the more troubling. That Romney would do this on the anniversary of 9/11 clearly shows he lacks the statemanship skills our country needs in a leader.

After Mr. Romney was widely criticized on both sides of the fence for his inappropriate behavior, he held a press conference this afternoon. If you watch the video it’s not apparent he understands how badly he misjudged his manuever.

His statement in the first half is riddled with errors of fact and his smirking through the questions reminds one of another president who got us into two unnecessary and costly wars and crashed our economy. And that he wore that self-satisfied smirk all the way out the door is not all reassuring.

Suggests to me he thought he scored some kind of political ground, instead of realizing how much credibility he lost in the eyes of the world. [photo:Charles Dharapak on twitter]
