“This lovely lady hails from British Columbia. She’s currently working in the public relations field – let’s have a big hand for the cute and curvaceous Jennifer Granholm!”
So did host Jim Lange introduce the 19-year old future governor of Michigan on the Dating Game in 1978.
Wearing big hair (“I was having a bad hair decade,” she now says), a low-cut blouse, hip-hugging pants – and the moles she would have surgically removed thirty years later - Granholm grills her three potential suitors in the classic ’70s show episode recently unearthed on YouTube. MIView contributor Frank Beckmann, host of WJR’s The Frank Beckmann Show, posted the long-rumored video (uncovered by Granholm fan Marty Nislick in New York) on his Facebook page Thursday.
America got an eyeful of the unhinged, fist-pumping Granholm (“Hey! Hey! Hey!” she yelled) at last week’s Democratic Convention – video that made her the laughingstock of the Internet. But in 1978, Granholm plays harder to get for her three bachelor suitors. The future GM cheerleader asks probing questions like how would you finish the poem: “Roses are red, violets are orange. When I take a shower. . . . ”
And: “What form of transportation should all girls be built like? And why?”
In the end, the now Current TV talk show host was blown away by Bachelor #2. And no, his name is not Dan Mulhern.
