The good people of Michigan voted on Nov. 6 for a great woman to go back to the Senate and a great man to go back to the White House. And they did a great thing by defeating the great effort made to stop the building of an international bridge over the Detroit River.
The governor of Michigan is a Republican who wants to do things and he is not afraid of challenges and good fights. The governor came out of the corporate world where he has been in many good fights.
When his detractors wouldn’t pass the needed legislation in the state houses, he moved on executive order and made the bridge work go forward. An outside detractor with a bridge of his own and lots of money is doing everything and anything to stop the governor from building the bridge. The governor’s challengers spent more than $30 million on a ballot proposal that would have killed the governor’s order and allowed the general voting population to decide on a bridge.
But the good people of Michigan wouldn’t let it happen, they voted down the proposal. Thank God.
Now the governor must await permits from federal officials and the shovels will go in the ground. This will generate 10,000 jobs that will help everybody in the long run. As people move in the city and surrounding areas there will be a demand for more of everything.
Too much of what is wrong in Michigan is not doing anything, rather than doing something. We can’t get a rail system going because if it is not a black-versus-white issue, it is a regional issue. The people of Michigan must stop fighting each other. We need jobs. The bridge, the rail system and other big projects mean jobs and jobs for somebody helps everybody.
