Mr. President, stand your ground

The good people of the United States are faced with a hard choice: They need an end to the government shutdown, but they need the country’s president to stand his ground.

Members of the House of Representatives want to set a new precedent – and an unconstitutional one at that. House Republicans want to have their way at all cost. They want to fix it so a minority can rule the majority and get the legislation they want, no matter how they get it.

President Barack Obama is doing the right thing by letting Republicans shut down the government. It is right not to allow them to pressure him into giving them what they can’t get by way of the normal legislative process. If the president caves, he will hurt every president to come for many years.

Mr. President, stand your ground.
