OK, saw two seriously good movies today — the wondrous indie “Your Sister’s Sister” and “Rampart,” Woody Harrelson’s masterwork (and that’s saying a bit).
But, think I’ll finish off the Toronto blogging with my awards for the festival. Keep in mind, a) there are more than 250 movies here, I saw maybe 30, b) these choice have no relevance to awards predictions, they’re simply about what I liked, c) as always ther are no best actors or films, art is not a horse race.
Given that:
- Best film: “The Artist,” “Take Shelter,” “Damsels in Distress”
- Best actor: Michael Shannon (“Take Shelter”), Jean Dujardin (“The Artist”), Woody Harrelson (“Rampart”)
- Best actress: Rosemarie DeWitt (“Your Sister’s Sister”), Glenn Close (“Albert Nobbs”), Greta Gerwig (“Damsels in Distress”)
- Ensemble: “Your Sister’s Sister” (Mark Duplass, Emily Blunt, Rosemarie DeWitt)
- Director: Michel Hazanavicius (“The Artist”), Jeff Nichols (“Take Shelter”), Lynn Shelton (“Your Sister’s Sister”). Interestingly, all three films were written by the directors.
