Well, so much for Astro winning “The X Factor.”
The pint size MC blew all his goodwill with America on Thursday after throwing a hissy fit when learning he was in the bottom two following Wednesday’s performance episode.
First, he refused to perform a final song, saying he didn’t think he needed to. Then he slagged through a lackluster performance and acted like a petulant child while the judges dressed him down and told him he needs an attitude adjustment. Then he told Simon Cowell he didn’t feel like performing for a country that would put him in the bottom two.
Um, when does “American Idol” start again?
Astro has never lacked for confidence. The first time he was featured on the show, he introduced himself by saying in five years he would be better than Jay-Z, then picked a mock fight with Cowell. Cowell looked like he wanted to toss him off the show right then and there, but he kept him on, and in recent weeks Astro shined and looked destined to win the whole competition. He displayed starpower, skills and poise, and kept his attitude in check.
Then Thursday happened.
Astro survived the show, as 42-year-old Stacy Francis was given the boot after a 3-1 vote from the judges. Cowell cast the deciding vote, saying he kept Astro on because he thought he had a better chance of winning the competition. But who’s going to vote for Astro now? He would need to get down on his knees and beg for America’s forgiveness, and it doesn’t seem Astro is capable of that kind of humility. He may have just flushed away a $5 million check, a bitter pill to swallow, but it may teach him a lesson in the long run. And that lesson is we already have one Kanye West, we don’t need another.
