Autoweek's Vinsetta Garage TV show debuts

Maybe like us, you’ve driven by the vintage Vinsetta Garage for years, its famed pink and blue neon light aglow on Woodward Avenue in Berkley.

So it’s both cool and unsettling to see it as the site of not only a forthcoming restaurant (launched by Curt Catallo and KC Crain), but now a cable TV show as well, “Autoweek’s Vinsetta Garage.” The show will debut at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 3 on the Discovery Channel’s new Velocity channel, aimed at an upscale male audience and mostly about motor vehicles of all kinds.

We spied Catallo on the new show’s teaser video along with a lot of other Detroitcentric footage. Catallo, who owns the Clarkston Union and the Union Workshop restaurants in Clarkston, has massive hot rod bona fides, being first and foremost the son of Clarence Catallo, who took an old ’32 Ford and transformed it into the famed “Little Deuce Coupe” that appeared on the cover of Hot Rod magazine in ’61, and on the Beach Boys 1963 album “Little Deuce Coupe.”

Back in 2007 I interviewed Catallo at the Henry Ford Museum right by his dad’s Little Deuce Coupe, as the News’ David Coates shot video.
