Former 'Everybody Hates Chris' star smoothly moves to adulthood

(From left) Trevor Jackson, Coco Jones and Tyler James Williams star in the Disney Channel's "Let It Shine." It debuts in June.

I love Tyler James Williams and I have ever since he delighted us for four seasons on The CW’s “Everybody Hates Chris.”

This is one of the reasons I am so excited to see that not only is the 19-year-old actor still working but he’s singing too.

Fans can check out Williams’ talents when he co-stars in the Disney Channel movie “Let It Shine,” when it airs in June. Some 200 or so lucky attendees at the NAACP Image Awards lunch last week got to hear a taste of Williams singing with his costars Coco Jones and Trevor Jackson. And they tore it up. I can’t wait to see this made-for-TV flick when it airs.

Meanwhile, Detroit native Keegan-Michael Key and his comedy partner Jordan Peele of “Key & Peele” fame kept us laughing as the event’s hosts.
