Let your strawberries take a dip:
Chips: Chocolate or vanilla chips work fine for dipping berries. As the chocolate melts, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening for every 12-ounce bag of chips. The shortening will thin the mixture and keep the chocolate from becoming too hard after the berries have been dipped.
Berries: Fruit with stems work best, but you can use toothpicks in place of stems. Wash the strawberries before you dip them and make sure they are completely dry and at room temperature before dipping, otherwise the candy will curdle or fall off the fruit.
Dipping/cooling: Dip berries into melted chocolate. After dipping the berries, place them on a foil-lined cookie sheet. Once all the berries are dipped, place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes or until the coating is firm. Coats approximately 40 strawberries.
