The flu knocked Nicklas Lidstrom out two weeks ago and tonight it did the same to Brad Stuart.
With Stuart unavailable, Mike Commodore and Jakub Kindl are both in the lineup on defense.
Commodore was supposed to be a healthy scratch.
Danny Cleary will play after expressing some doubt this morning because of a sore knee.
