With Cory Emmerton in the penalty box for interference, the Red Wings stepped up and killed the penalty, but still trail Nashville 1-0 in Game 1 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
The call on Emmerton was a rather ticky-tack call, one that wasn’t even made much in the regular season, let alone something that should be called in the playoffs. But Jimmy Howard stepped up and made some nice saves to keep Nashville off the board.
Right now, the Predators are all over the Wings. Detroit can barely get anything going offensively. The ice is definitely tilted to the Nashville end right now. The pressure paid off, as an extensive Predators cycle led to Jonathan Ericsson tackled Alexander Radulov and will head to the penalty box for two minutes.
And now Nashville will have an extended 5-on-3 as Justin Abdelkader is called for high sticking.
Things aren’t going well for the Wings at all. Darren Helm has left the Red Wings bench and has gone to the locker room. Helm returned to the lineup tonight after missing the last few weeks due to a sprained knee.
