Goals nowhere to be found after 40 minutes

We are down to the most important 20 minutes of Detroit’s season.

Following 40 minutes of play at Joe Louis Arena, the Red Wings and Predators still remain scoreless in Game 4 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Nashville leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.

The Red Wings again controlled play in the second period, even more so than in the first. Detroit outshot Nashville 16-3 in the period, but only had a few good chances, including a Nicklas Lidstrom blast from the point as time wound down.

Pekka Rinne has stopped all 27 shots he’s faced for Nashville.

A positive sign here is the Red Wings are up 30-21 in faceoffs after getting creamed there in the first few games.

On the negative sign, the line of Henrik Zetterberg-Valtteri Filppula-Jiri Hudler has been a complete non-factor, especially the last two. They need to turn it up and quit looking lost out there.

This game is likely coming down to first goal wins. Hold on to your hats, folks.
