Red Wings, Predators scoreless after 20 minutes

The first period is in the books and the Red Wings and Predators are scoreless in Game 4 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series at Joe Louis Arena.

Nashville leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.

The Red Wings outshot the Predators 10-7 and controlled the vast majority of the play, generating several solid scoring opportunities, but Nashville’s defense held firm in front of Pekka Rinne, blocking six shots.

Henrik Zetterberg had a nice chance on a wrap-around but never got to complete it as he was hooked. On the play, Roman Josi cross checked Todd Bertuzzi, giving the Red Wings another power play opportunity at 14:27

That only lasted 41 seconds, though, as Pavel Datsyuk was called for tripping, leading to some more 4-on-4 hockey. Detroit killed off the remaining penalty time.

Even though the Red Wings couldn’t beat Rinne, it was a solid period, but it is one shot away from going awry if Nashville puts one in.
