Many people predicted this Stanley Cup series wouldn’t attract many television viewers and thus far, that group is correct.
These numbers are preliminary, but Saturday’s Game 2 drew 2.54 million viewers which is less than Thursday’s Game 1 and will likely be the least-watched Finals game on a broadcast network since 2007.
Every game in last year’s series between Boston and Vancouver (even the games on VERSUS) did better than Saturday’s Game 2.
The overall numbers are a little surprising since both games in this series have gone into overtime. Now, Game 1 was prety much unwatchable for most of the evening.
But Saturday’s game wasn’t bad, and let’s face it, any Stanley Cup Final game that goes into overtime should be compelling television.
But it hasn’t been.
And if the Devils don’t win Game 3 this evening, this could be lead to one of the least-watched and least-remembered Stanley Cup Finals series ever.
