A reader brought up the question of whether Sergei Fedorov will be booed at Comerica Park during the old-timers game against Toronto during Winter Classic week.
I certainly hope Red Wings fans would cheer Fedorov. And when game time arrives, I think they will.
Granted, the ending to his career here wasn’t smooth and clean. Fedorov never seemed to fit in Anaheim, Columbus, to a lesser extent Washington, and likely realizes he made a mistake leaving.
But this was an electrifying talent, one of the best players in the game, and one of the key talents on championship teams.
He could be different, no doubt. Maybe Fedorov didn’t always say the right thing.
But Sergei Fedorov was an important Red Wing for a long time, and was a big reason the Wings won three Cups with him in the lineup.
He was a unique player, and to boo him at an event like this one will be, just wouldn’t reflect well on Red Wings fans.
