Justin Abdelkader's long wait appears over, contract agreement close

This time, it really does look like Justin Abdelkader will finally have a new contract finalized.
The restricted free agent forward has been patiently waiting for a new contract to be worked out with the Red Wings all summer.
Abdelkader was going to contact his agent later today and a contract should be finalized and announced before Saturday’s collective bargaining agreement expires.
“I would hope to get something done before the 15th (when the CBA expires),” Abdelkader said.
General manager Ken Holland indicated the other day both sides were close to a contract agreement.
Abdelkader’s deal is likely to be structured similarly to forward Darren Helm’s, likely for four years, with Abdelkader’s salary likely being doubled from the $825,000 he made last season.
Abdelkader is toying with the idea of playing in Europe if a lockout drags out for months, but isn’t sure what he’ll do for sure yet.
