More Red Wings are finding work during the lockout.
Valtteri Filppula said during the Wings conditioning skates he’d be playing in his native Finland if the lockout looked like it would drag on.
And with no negotiations set for this week between the league and players, and all September exhibition games cancelled, Filppula saw the writing on the wall.
He’ll be playing for Jokerit, the team Filppula played with before joining the Wings, for the duration of the lockout.
Filppula joins Pavel Datsyuk (Russia), Jakub Kindl (Czech Republic) and Damen Brunner (Switzerland) as Red Wings currently playing overseas.
As for Brunner, who the Wings signed as an undrafted free agent July 1, there is speculation that Brunner may stay in Switzerland now rather than join the Grand Rapids Griffins, as was the plan, once the Griffins regular season begins in October.
If that’s the case, Brunner would still return to the Red Wings once the lockout ends.
