It was a quite a week for Red Wings draft pick Xavier Ouellet.
The defenseman, who plays for Blainville-Boisbriand of the Quebec junior league, had a goal and seven assists in three games last week to earn First Star honors from the league.
Ouellet ranks second among Quebec League defenseman wih 18 points in 16 games.
Ouellet (6-foot, 190-pounds) was picked in the second-round of June’s Entry Draft, after scoring 60 points (21 goals)in 63 games for Blainville-Boisbrand last season.
Some scouts have compared Ouellet to former Red Wings defenseman Brian Rafalski because of his size, the way he moves the puck and ability to make a good first pass.
Ouellet isn’t very big and some scouts don’t think much of his speed, but there’s obvious potential.
Isn’t it just nice to read about an actual hockey player playing, though, and actual hockey going on?
Kind of refreshing.
