Darren Helm suffers fractured cheekbone during workout

The lockout just got a little more costlier for the Red Wings in terms of personnel.
It seems the puck forward Darren Helm took off his face Friday morning during a workout in Troy was more serious than expected.

Helm fractured his cheekbone but won’t know if he needs surgery until seeing specialists on Saturday.

A pass deflected off a stick and caught Helm flush on the face, forcing him to collapse to the ice.

Helm skated off the ice and headed directly to a medical office.
Helm missed time late last season with a knee injury, and missed the majority of the first-round loss to Nashville in the playoffs with a severed tendon in his left forearm.
Cory Emmerton broke a finger during a game in Europe earlier in this lockout.
