Tomas Holmstrom will announce his retirement before Tuesday’s home opener at 4:30 p.m.
Holmstrom, 40, played 15 seasons with the Red Wings, playing 1,026 games and scoring 243 goals.
Injuries limited Holmstrom over the past few seasons, limiting some of his effectiveness.
A former ninth-round draft pick, Holmstrom crafted a career that will see him go down as one of the best net-front players in the history of the NHL.
