Pavel Datsyuk is back in the Red Wings lineup this evening. Datsyuk missed Friday’s game with a bruised shoulder but took part in Sunday’s morning skate and said he was feeling better. With Datsyuk playing, Patrick Eaves was bumped out of the lineup.

The Red Wings have waived goalie Joey MacDonald. If no team claims MacDonald, he will be assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins. MacDonald hasn’t played since March because of a bulging disc in his back. He has been practicing regularly over the last two weeks and appears to be healthy.
To those wondering this morning, the Red Wings don’t expect any further discipline from the league in regard to Johan Franzen’s spearing incident last night. Late in the third period, Franzen speared Blues forward David Perron earning a major penalty and game misconduct. Coach Mike Babcock said Franzen “over-reacted” on the play.

And down goes another defenseman. The Red Wings have announced between periods that Brendan Smith will not be returning because of an upper body injury. No further details were disclosed. The Red Wings are already without defenseman Ian White (leg laceration) and Carlo Colaiacovo (shoulder). Brian Lashoff is the lone available extra defenseman.
To no one’s real surprise, the major given to St. Louis forward David Backes last night against the Red Wings has been rescinded. Backes was called for illegal hit to the head of Red Wings defenseman Kent Huskins. Replays showed Backes never made contact with Huskins’ head. General manager Ken Holland says forward Henrik Zetterberg is “sick today” and that’s the reason the Wings captain wasn’t on the ice today. Zetterberg played during Tuesday’s 4-1 victory over Dallas and the Red Wings were off yesterday, which created a bit of a buzz this afternoon when Zetterberg wasn’t on the ice.
