Gretzky getter, ex-Kings owner crowned by tax man

The California tax man sent former Los Angeles Kings owner — and Weekend at Bernie’s bankroller — Bruce McNall a belated gift to mark the 23rd anniversary of signing hockey legend Wayne Gretzky: a $7.7 million delinquent tax bill.

Though a $9.9 million lien would have been more symmetrical, the tax bill is good for sixth place on the state’s list of largest sales and use tax delinquents.

The lien was filed against McNall and his thoroughbred company Summa Stables, which has a colorful history.

What’s owed:

  • The state of California filed a $7,701,395 tax lien Aug. 25 with the Los Angeles County Recorder of Deeds.

McNall, 61, could not be reached for comment.
