The pro-Mitt Romney independent group launched a new TV ad this week in Michigan that blasts Democratic criticism of Ann Romney as a stay at home mom and tries to link the remarks to President Barack Obama.
The Restore Our Future super PAC launched the new spot in time for Mother’s Day, a move that highlights the ongoing struggle among in the presidential campaigns to appeal to women voters. Polls have show women favoring President Barack Obama by a notable margin, but the Romney campaign has been trying to make use of the offensive comments one Democratic strategist said last month about wife Ann Romney, who raised five sons as a stay-at-home mom.
The ad shows a picture of Ann with her boys and asks what “White House insider” Hilary Rosen says?
It plays the clip of Rosen’s comments on CNN: “His wife has actually never worked a day in her life,” she said.
HBO comedian Bill Maher is also a target in the ad too, noting he gave a $1 million in support of Obama’s reelection. “Ann Romney has never gotten her ass out of the house,” the Maher clip says.
Rosen, who doesn’t work for Obama but is a political contributor to CNN, has since apologized. Though Obama and his campaign denounced Rosen’s remarks against Ann Romney, the ad depicts a card with pictures of Obama, Rosen and Maher.
“Happy Mother’s Day from Barack Obama’s team,” the announcer says.
The ad will be running in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia, as part of the $4.3 million buy.
This is the second Romney super PAC ad launched inMichigansince he became the presumptive GOP nominee. The first was a positive spot on Romney helping his co-worker help find his missing 14-year-old daughter inNew York City.
