Three Michigan hotels earn Conde Nast Traveler awards

The best-of lists in travel magazines are always fun to read, and Conde Nast Traveler’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards never disappoint. They’re worth browsing if only to add to your bucket list.

Three Michigan hotels – the Grand Hotel and the Hotel Iroquois on the Beach, both on Mackinac Island, and the Inn at Bay Harbor in Little Traverse Bay – made the list this time around. The Inn at Bay Harbor and the Grand Hotel were voted among the Top 150 resorts in the mainland U.S., ranking 51 and 88, respectively. The Hotel Iroquois ranked 27 among the Top 50 small hotels. Readers rated hotels on food/dining, location, overall design, rooms, and service.

Mackinac Island, unfortunately, did not make the nation’s Top 10 islands. It’s no surprise that most of the islands were in Hawaii – Maui, Kauai, Big Island, Oahu, and Lanai. Also on the list were Kiawah, S.C., Nantucket, Amelia Island, Fla., Cumberland Island, Ga., and Hilton Head, S.C.

The editors at Conde Nast Traveler sifted from more than 8 million votes cast by readers in the annual survey. The awards reflect the combined opinions of 28,876 readers who rated the cities, islands, and hotels they visited in the past year, as well as the airlines and cruise ships they traveled with.

It’s a discerning bunch, for sure.
