'Mend It Better' book giveaway

If you’re not a sewer, but often find yourself needing to mend a garment or two, then “Mend It Better, Creative Patching, Darning and Stitching” (Storey.com/$18.95) will help make those repairs much easier. Simple step-by-step instructions and basic sewing skills are all you need.

Written by Ames, Iowa resident Kristin M. Roach, creator of the website CraftLeftovers.com, the book gives readers information for simple mending to the kind that can turn a garment into wearable art with interesting patchwork details and more.

Featured mending projects include a button patch pocket, straight hems, making a new hemline, elastic repairs, belt loop repair, darning, sew-on hook and eye closures, replacing zippers, re-pleating, in-seam pockets, and SEW on and SEW on!

For a chance at winning a copy of the book, just email me at jbrown@detnews.com and tell me a short story about your sewing experience. Please put the word “mend” in the subject line, and REMEMBER to include your name and address.

Good Luck!
