Let the record show that Austin Jackson is batting 1.000.
The Tigers leadoff hitter, who has been oft-criticized during his Tigers tenure, took the first pitch he saw from Red Sox lefty Jon Lester and laced it to center field for a single.
If he does that consistently this season, he’ll score 120-plus runs.
But he’ll wait a little longer for run No. 1. On the very next pitch, Brennen Boesch grounded into a rountine 5-4-3 double play, then slugger Miguel Cabrera followed with a liner to third — in a scary scene, Cabrera’s bat shattered and went flying toward third baseman Kevin Youkilis, too.
Solid inning for Lester: Five pitches. At that rate, he can pitch till Sunday.
Due up for Red Sox: David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis, Ryan Sweeney.
