Lester shuts down thick of Tigers' lineup

Boesch. Cabrera. Fielder. Young.

Plenty this season, those four Tigers will cause opposing pitchers to have migraines.

Not so far today against Red Sox lefty Jon Lester, however.

Boesch led off the fourth with a weak grounder to first, then Miguel Cabrera reached on a four-pitch walk (someday the Tigers will find some protection for him in the lineup … I kid, I kid).

Up stepped Prince Fielder, who took a mighty hack for strike two — if he had connected on that one, the ball might’ve ended up at the Renaissance Center. Then Lester froze him for strike three with a 92-mph fastball on the outside corner.

Delmon Young ended the inning with a foul pop to first base.

So far, the pitchers have the big edge here today at Comerica Park. Not a surprise, of course, considering the immense talent Lester and Verlander have.

Best pitching matchup in the majors today, without a doubt.

Due up for the Red Sox in the top of the fifth: Youkilis, Sweeney, Ross.
