There are Tiger fans and then there are real Tiger fans, like the hopeful, shivering group camped outside the ticket office outside Comerica Park across from Ford Field on Opening Day 2012.
Dressed against the cold with a heavy jacket and a hoodie, Jesse McElmurry of Clinton Township showed up at 5 a.m. for the chance at extra Tiger tickets.
“I left the house at 4:30 a.m. and scored a free parking spot at the Greektown Casino,” McElmurry said.
Port Huron resident Geoff Roberts got there at 6 a.m.with his daughter, Hayleigh, 15, and her best friend, Destinee Jaekel, 15.
“It’s so cold, but I’m trying to stay warm under this blanket,” Hayleigh said.
“If we get tickets, we’ll take our chairs back to the car.”
Croswell resident Evan Ehardt arrived at 6 a.m. and was surprised to see he was second in line for tickets.
“I was kind of bummed,” Ehardt said with a laugh.
Do they all know each other?
“Not really,” Ehardt said. “We weren’t even Facebook friends.”
