1. I know that Austin Jackson is eligible to come off the DL on Friday and that many of you think that Ryan Raburn to Toledo as the roster-making move makes sense.
And it does – except for this.
2. Jackson might not be ready on Friday. He’s still not participating in any baseball activity.
So I’m thinking it’s not going to be Friday.
3. If the Tigers are going to make a Raburn move, sooner than Friday is possible – if not probable.
4. And here’s why it is probable.
Manager Jim Leyland said the Raburn leash isn’t long, but he’s not the kind of manager to put pressure on a player by hinting he doesn’t have much more time to produce.
Leyland is far more apt to say the leash is short when it has already run out.
5 That’s why I’m thinking it’s already run out and that Raburn, with an option remaining, could be headed to Toledo at any time – starting now.
And why not? At .146, and on the heels of taking three called third strikes in Monday’s game, he’s hit rock bottom.
A trip to Toledo to get back on track, if possible, seems logically essential
