Fielder in good position for final, hits 11 second round bombs

After barely scraping by into the second round with five first round home runs, Prince Fielder made an emphatic statement to open the second round.

Fielder hit 11 home runs in the round for 16 total, putting him in good position to advance to the final.

Still to hit in the second round are Carlos Beltran (seven home runs), Mark Trumbo (seven) and Jose Bautista (11).

Because he had the least amount of home runs in the first round, Fielder was up first and his second home run went 476 feet into the fountain in deep centerfield. Think about that one for a second, 476 feet. That is a big fly.

Through four outs, Fielder had already matched his first round total of five, gaining much-needed ground. He drilled yet another one 464 feet to right-centerfield into the fountain. This is an impressive display of power.

After hitting a high bomb down the line, he followed with a 461-foot shot into the fountains again. He is being pitched inside and is somehow getting around on these and absolutely destroying them. Fielder has the five longest home runs of the  Derby to this point. His 11th dinger of the round went 458 feet and again into the fountain.

That would be Fielder’s final home run of the round, putting him in good position to reach the final with 16 total home runs.
