First-place White Sox quell Tigers' bats to win makeup game

The White Sox relievers retired 14 batters consecutively, three in the top of the ninth to leave the Tigers three games back in the AL Central race.

Quintin Berry, pinch-hitting for Garcia, grounded out to start top of the ninth. Andy Dirks pinch hit for Laird, prompting the White Sox to bring in left-hander Matt Thornton to replace Myers (1 1/3 innings, 1 strikeout).

Thornton struck out Dirks before right-hander Addison Reed came on to face Jackson, who flied out to right to the end the game.
