Prince Fielder took the first pitch of the second inning and drove it deep over the left-center field fence to put the Tigers on the board and ahead of the Minnesota Twins.
The solo blast was Fielder’s 29th of the season.
Jhonny Peralta added to the lead as he ripped a one-out pitch down the left field line for a double that scored Andy Dirks all the way from first base.
Justin Verlander cruised through the bottom of the first inning, setting the Twins down in order.
