Justin Verlander has had trouble throwing his fastball for a strike today, but it hasn’t mattered.
The rest of Verlander’s pitches are hitting their spots and he continues to ride the two runs that Prince Fielder and Jhonny Peralta drove in for the Tigers in the second inning.
After allowing the first two batters to reach in the fourth, Verlander promptly struck out Justin Morneau, Ryan Doumit and Chris Parmelee in order.
He has struck out six batters, walked two and surrendered two hits on 77 pitches through five innings.
The Chicago White Sox, who are one game behind the Tigers in the American League Central Division with five games remaining, now trail the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-0, in the fifth inning of their game in Chicago.
