Tigers win division, heading to playoffs with 6-3 victory over Royals

Miguel Cabrera’s triple crown chase will take a back seat to the fact that the Tigers have won back-to-back American League Central Divsion titles.

Cabrera went 4-for-5 with three singles and a home run that put him in sole possession of the A.L. home run lead.

The White Sox won in Cleveland, 11-0, so it was up to the Tigers to win tonight to put the division race away.

The Tigers scored five of their six runs in a big sixth inning that was led off by Cabrera’s solo shot.

Jose Valverde came in and shut the door on the Royals in the ninth inning.
