Justin Verlander has been very good against the A’s this year.
Actually, scratch that.
Justin Verlander has been exceptionally good against the A’s this year.
He is 3-0 with a .90 ERA against Oakland in 2012. And while that bodes well for the Tigers tonight, it doesn’t guarantee anything.
The Tiger bats need to wake up. Plain and simple.
This lineup, which looked very scary at the beginning of the season, needs to come through and push this team into the ALCS.
Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder will come to play, but that’s not good enough right now. The season is on the line. They have to deliver.
Austin Jackson and Quintin Berry have to get on base in front of them.
The Tigers have to score early to take some of the pressure off of their ace on the mound.
If Verlander can sit back and relax with a couple runs of support early in this game, you have to like this teams chances.
But Oakland is a scary place to play. The A’s ripped the division away from the two-time division champion Rangers on the last day of the season.
There’s something special brewing in Oakland. But it’s Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder’s job to put an end to it. That’s what special players do. And that’s what Tiger fans want to see tonight.
First pitch from Oakland is at 9:37.
