It’s been a long and sometimes frustrating year, but the Tigers are right where we thought they would be when the 2012 season kicked off.
Now the team heads to the Bronx for a classic match up with the New York Yankees.
Both teams had to ride their ace to win decisive games in their respective Division Series’. That gives us a Game 1 match up in the American League Championship Series of Doug Fister and Andy Pettitte.
While this sounds like it might favor the Tigers, Pettitte has been solid in 2012. He’s not the pitcher he was ten years ago, but he is a crafty lefty, and the Tigers have struggled all season against quality left-handed pitching.
Fister has reverted back to his September of 2011 form over the past few weeks. And when he’s hitting his spots, he can be very tough on hitters from any side of the plate. The Yankees’ bats limped through their Divsion Series, so Fister hopes that trend continues tonight in the Bronx.
First pitch from New York is scheduled for 8:07 on TBS.
